For the record, I do not ride a Harley.  I guess we now know what that makes me.

new podcast about coffee

February 24, 2009 – 11:04 am
Scott Jangro and I started a new coffee podcast, called coffeecast.  It can be found at CoffeeCast.fm.  It is being billed as the "odd couple" of the coffee world.  Scott will drink anything (even 7-11 coffee) and I will only drink hand picked, perfectly roasted beans delivered to me on a silver platter. We plan on doing a new podcast each week to discuss everything from interesting coffees to our favortie brewing methods.  If you love coffee, our podcasts should make you love it even more.  If you aren't a fan of coffee, give it a listen - you will probably be jealous of us and start drinking coffee.

time for a coffee break

January 2, 2009 – 12:49 pm
I love coffee!  There I said it.  I am not one of those coffee fiends that drinks coffee all day long though.  I typically drink a single Starbucks in the morning - along with a danish.  My current drink of choice is a Tall Cappuccino with an extra shot.  I also have a policy of not drinking coffee after 2 pm during the week - so usually my one cappuccino is all I have each day. I also love to make coffee at home.  I have four devices that I use to make coffee but really only use two of them regularly.  I have a Saeco Super Automatic Espresso Machine, a Krups Drip Coffee Maker, A French Press and my newest apparatus - a Hario Siphon Coffee Maker (more about that later).  I gave up making drip coffee over a year ago.  I do not like drip coffee and prefer espresso ...

featured watch 5 - mühle glasshütte rasmus diver orange

November 13, 2008 – 9:45 am
I am actually wearing this watch today.  I wanted a straight-up, heavy-duty diver watch for my collection.  A lot of people go for the Rolex Submariner (or if you are cool, you get the Sea Dweller) but I wanted something unique that I wouldn't see on another wrist.  I chose the Mühle Glasshüte Rasmus Divers with Orange Dial.  I have both the bracelet (pictured) and the natural rubber strap.  It is also available with a black, red, or blue face. This is by far the heaviest watch I own and at 44mm in width, it is one of the biggest as well.  It is built like a tank out of a solid piece of 316L stainless steel.  It has an automatic movement - meaning it is a mechanical watch that winds itself from the movement of your wrist.  It definitely stands out when worn.  Most people probably instinctively think it is ...

featured t-shirt 8 - ozzy osbourne & rob zombie

featured watch 4 - casio paw1300 pathfinder

November 11, 2008 – 3:34 pm
Another favorite watch of mine is the Casio PAW1300 Pathfinder.  It is a great travel and camping watch because (a) it costs less than $250 and (b) it has an amazing amount of functionality built into a relatively small package. First cool feature is it doesn't use batteries - instead, it uses solar power to charge itself.  I keep my watches in a pitch black safe when not wearing them.  Even after two months, the watch is still running with half a charge left.  The specifications state that it can go 5 months on a single charge. Another cool feature is it syncs with the atomic clock shortly after midnight every night over radio waves so it is always accurate to less than 1 second.  It actually can sync to different frequencies around the world (US, UK, Germany, Japan), so no matter where you live or travel, it should sync up to ...

qr codes

October 24, 2008 – 12:29 pm
So, I stumbled upon QR codes the other day and have been having fun playing with them.  If you haven't heard of them yet then you probably haven't lived in Japan recently - they are all the rage over there. What's a QR code you ask?  Good question.  It is that black and white matrix image at the top of this post.  Want to know more?  There is a page on wikipedia that provides more details. Why am I interested in them?  QR codes can hold data like website addresses, business card info, or anything that you want up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters.  For example, the image above has my business card information encoded in it. The image below is a link to this blog. If you have a decoder on your cell phone or computer, you can read the information or they can act as hyper links.  Most cell phones in Japan have ...

maybe there is still hope for this world

September 24, 2008 – 11:59 am
Someone passed this on to me as one of those viral emails that have a life of their own on the internet.  While most of these types of emails/stories/videos you get sent to you tend to be funny/amusing/stupid, this one is heart warming (in a good way, not that cute, warm and fuzzy way with babies and puppies). It gave me a sense of belonging with the rest of humanity and made me think that with everything going on in this world right now, that maybe there is still hope for all of us that things will work out for the better. Please take the time to watch the whole video - it is only 4 minutes and 28 seconds long.  I think you can spare that much time out of your life for this. It really begins to rock at about 0:52. Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from ...

iphone app reviews part 2

September 17, 2008 – 5:07 pm
I now have 37 applications loaded on my iPhone with plans to add at least 3 more this week or next.  Previously, I listed 24 apps on my iPhone and rated them on a scale of 1-10.  I thought I would give a little more feedback on a few apps that I really like, along with some screen shots. I have organized my applications into 5 screens.  The first screen holds all the primary apps that come with the iPhone like Text, YouTube, Maps, Contact, iTunes, App Store, Settings, etc.  Not much to really show you here - if you've seen an iPhone, you know what mine looks like. The next screen holds what I call my utility applications.  These applications are used to access things I use a lot and seem to belong together.  My most frequently used apps are Twitterlator, Facebook, and iVote.  Handy apps that I do not use ...
