cuts like a knife but it feels so right…
June 9, 2008 – 12:37 pmLast Thursday, I went under the knife to have my left submandibular saliva gland removed (the one under my left jaw bone). It had a huge stone in it and had stopped working years ago. Needless to say, that wasn’t the best way to spend a Thursday. On Friday I went for a post-op check-up and the doctor commented that in all his 35 years of doing this, mine was one of the biggest.
Friday and Saturday provided the most discomfort with steady improvement through to today. I get my stitches out this coming Friday which should be tons-o-fun. The soon to be scar is under my jaw - maybe 2 - 3 inches long. I posted a pic for those who want all the gory details below (it is reversed so it looks like it is on my right side - but it isn’t). The healing wound makes it difficult (I am not doing it) to wear a helmet, so no motorcycling for the next few weeks(?).
This wasn’t my fist surgery (seventh technically - if you count tonsil and wisdom teeth removals) but I certainly hope it was my last (although I somehow doubt it).
